Our first stop on tour…
Thank you Newcastle! Who could have imagined such epic outcomes for the first stop on the Festival of The Stone Tour?
Last Sunday our crew along with local volunteers, community groups and beach goers that were keen to lend a hand gathered at the iconic Nobby’s Beach in Newy, using up-cycled malt bags (from our brewery) and lead by legends Clean Coast Collective (CCC) they spent several hours cleaning up the coast and removing 72 kilos of trash.
It was stinking hot but this didn’t stop the amazing 40 or so volunteers who dedicated their arvo to protecting our salty shores. Fossicking through straws, cigarette butts, deceased flip flops, plastic wrappers, multiple P plates, coffee cups and the most interesting find of the day – two large plastic kegs that after some google searching, we discovered are “an ‘enviro’ alternative to steel kegs”…yet they still ended up as litter..?
The heat meant mid – clean up swims were essential, along with hang outs in the shade at CCC’s Tee Pee set up and the re application of Surf Yogi sunscreen to protect from the sun.
Leaving a cleaner coast our crew of legends were thirsty for a well-earned cold beer. The cure for this thirst could be found at the Clean Up’s After Party.
Refreshing brews flowed from Clyde’s taps and a crowd of locals, families, hipsters and volunteers gathered at The Edwards to soak in the good times. Musos Dusty Boots, The Owls and Voodoo Youth played to a grooving crowd whilst servings of nachos from The Edwards firing kitchen ensured bellies were full. It was incredible to see such an enthusiastic community coming together and enjoying themselves, even on a school night, for a great cause.
So a big thankyou to the good people of Newcastle and the legends from Clean Coast Collective…our first stop was beyond expectation and has set the standard for the rest of the tour to follow!
Bring on Sydney -our next stop…
